Press Release: “The Beauty Queen of Leenane”

Dalkey Players present Martin McDonagh’s award winning play The Beauty Queen of Leenane from Tuesday 13th to Friday 16th November at 8pm in Dalkey Town Hall.

Mag Folan lives with her daughter Maureen on a hillside near Leenane in west Connemara. ‘Do I not wish? Sometimes I dream…. of anything other than this’, says Maureen, lonely and trapped by her manipulative mother. Their only visitors are neighbours Ray Dooley and his brother Pato who has emigrated to London. When Mag interferes with Maureen’s first, and perhaps only, chance of romance and happiness, a chain of horrific and tragically funny events is set in motion. On this remote hillside in Connemara everyone strives to hold on to what they believe to be their protected place. But when this place is threatened, to what lengths will they go to protect their fading dreams?

The Beauty Queen of Leenane, directed by Aileen Byrne, is a pitch-black tale of love and leaving, desire and despair, reality and imagination. Join Dalkey Players for this terrifying and hilarious roller coaster ride in what promises to be a great evening of theatre.

The Beauty Queen of Leenane runs from Tuesday 13th to Friday 16th November in Dalkey Town Hall.

Following our 2016 All Ireland Drama Festival Runner- up success, Dalkey Players invite you to come and support our Autumn Production.

The talented cast includes 2016 award winners Alan Nuzum (winner of 4 best supporting actor awards this year) John Walsh one of our longest standing members, Alan Stewart, ( 2 One Act  acting awards)  plus stalwart members Geraldine McGrath, Colm Kearns, Cyrileen Power plus newcomers Emmet Driver and Roisin Scully .

Hugh Leonard would have been 90 years old in November this year, so his Tony Award winning Play DA” seemed an appropriate way to bring him back to his roots. We look forward to seeing you and some friends during the run.
